The street walk

Five stops on one Mera street.

Every photo on this walk comes from Mera Painting's own jobs. Follow it the way the crew works: outside in, prep before paint, trim last.

Gray shingle Victorian with a turret, three ladders against the facade and every window masked in blue tape before painting

Stop one · Exterior

Ladders up, windows taped, nothing painted yet.

The outside starts with prep. Loose paint comes off, every window gets masked, and the siding is washed first, because paint never adheres perfectly to a dirty surface. We power wash the house and clean the gutters ourselves so the new coat lasts.

Freshly stained mahogany porch floor running toward white porch posts and railings

Stop two · Porch & deck

A porch floor that looks poured in mahogany.

Deck painting and staining is its own trade: boards cleaned and dry, stain worked into the grain, steps and porch floors finished so they read as one surface with the trim around them.

Kitchen with cabinets refinished in a soft gray, white stone counters and stainless appliances

Stop three · Kitchen

Same cabinets, new kitchen.

Looking to update tired kitchen cabinets with a kick of color? Refinishing gives a dated kitchen a new finish without tearing out the boxes. Doors, frames and the island all get the same colour and the same smooth coat.

Pale damask wallpaper hung above a white chair rail beside a painted door casing

Stop four · Dining room

Wallpaper hung to the chair rail, pattern matched.

We install and remove wallpaper. Old paper and paste come off, the wall is prepped smooth, and the new pattern is hung so it lines up at every seam between the crown and the chair rail.

Coffered white ceiling over a room painted charcoal gray with crisp white crown moulding

Stop five · Study

Coffered ceiling, cut in clean.

Crown moulding, coffers, built-ins and trim are where carpentry and painting meet. Lead Carpenter Alex's crew handles the woodwork, and the painters cut the white trim crisp against a deep wall colour.

On the lawn, out front

“Your #1 Painting Source.”

That is what the red sign in the front yard says while the crew works. Customers put it more plainly.

“He’s the first and last call I always make. He is my ‘Go-to-Guy’ when I need interior or exterior work completed.”

From the job file

The same yellow house plays in the film at the top of this page: body, teal panels and white brackets, three colours cut against each other.

The cleanup is part of the paint job.

Mera Painting and Home Design is licensed, insured and certified to follow EPA specific lead-safe work practices. That matters most in the older homes this part of New Jersey is full of, where the paint you are covering may be decades old.

Room fully draped in plastic sheeting with a covered light fixture, prepared before painting

Before the first coat

  1. Prepare

Properly preparing for a renovation, before a brush comes out.

Furniture covered, floors protected and the work area closed off, so dust from old paint stays where the crew is working.

  2. Vacuum

We use HEPA vacuums to clean up dust and debris on all surfaces.

A HEPA filter holds the fine dust that a shop vacuum blows back into the room. Every surface, not only the floor.

  3. Wet wipe

Followed by wet wiping and wet mopping with plenty of rinse water.

Dry sweeping spreads paint dust. Wiping and mopping wet, then rinsing, lifts it off for good before the room is handed back.

  4. From careful preparation to high-quality paint and wallpaper, the aim is a first-class finish and a clean house. How an interior or exterior job runs.

Carpentry, from RB., Chatham, NJ

Other carpenters measured, quoted high and walked off the job. Crown moulding in every bedroom and a curved wall later, this is how it ended. Carpentry and home improvements

“Mr. Mera found it in just a few days and completed the job so efficiently I couldn’t be happier.”The matching moulding for the curved wall was material other carpenters said would take weeks to find.

Your house could be the next stop.

Christian walks the job, looks at the surfaces and the prep it needs, and gives you a free estimate. From the first visit to the final walk through, the process is meant to stay simple.
